This month we packed up the house, said teary goodbyes and started our cross country drive. First we headed South to Ashland Oregon for a gig at Taste. The following day, the high planes of Eastern Oregon provided some dramatic landscapes as we made our way towards Nevada.
There are parts of Nevada that look like a martian landscape. I had driven across the US on the northern route and the southern route but this was my first trip on I-80, straight through the belly of America. There is not much that I can say about it here that wasn’t said by Jack Kerouac in On the Road. I’m sure old Jack would have marveled at the wind turbines in Nebraska. I don’t think he would have taken to kindly to the homogenized fast food landscape that now makes so many towns look just like the next…but that is whole other blog post.
Wyoming and Nebraska felt like ghost towns. It’s a sure sign that you have been way out in the country, if Iowa’s rolling fields and small towns give you a feeling you have returned to civilization. We cut up to Chicago to spend a few nights with family and friends. After a night of fun in the windy city we got up early, hit the road and finished off our journey to PA in one day.
